State of the Art In house Sanding Machine

Union Glass Centres offers on site processing facilities that most other suppliers dont. On the right you see our in house sand-blasting machine that can provide sandblasted effects to glass for all purposes, to your design or to one of many pre-designed templates that we can apply to your application for home or commercial use. See our Gallery Page for some examples.

Our processing shop in Armada Street can deal with most of your requirements in house. Edging and drilling are all done on site to your requirements. We also keep nearly 1000 products in stock, so there will often be no delay in sourcing the glass or the accessories you need. In a few days you can receive your order, finished to your specification, and optionally delievered to your premises

Fitting by our trained team of technicians is also an option and we will be happy to quote an "all-in" cost to you for supply and fit of products, with labour, so you have control of the costs on your project.

Some processes, such as toughening, have to be done off-site at specialist facilities. But we can organise that for you as part of the job. And our connections in the Glass Industry and regular flow of orders allow us to get special orders and processes expedited, so your project is not delayed.

More on Creativity with Stained Glass...

As people look for more inventive ways to provide uplift and colour into homes and entertainment spaces, stained-glass has enjoyed something of a resurgence. Most of our work is in the local area and this has allowed us to develop a good knowledge of typical period styles. Customers include home owners, architects, glaziers, builders, carpenters, estate agents and conservation organisations. Our in house stained glass specialist will undertake period reproductions, installing completely new sets of panels or just the missing elements. Repairs and restoration are also a key part of our work.

What is "Leaded Light?"

Panels made out of coloured glass no matter how intricate are simply referred to as leaded or decorative and are much cheaper. Windows containing only rectangles or diamond shaped pieces are said to be made of 'quarries'. Tie bars or saddle bars are metal rods that help support the panel. They are usually horizontal - sometimes vertical and need to be set at each end into the frame, not simply into the rebate. Small pieces of copper wire are soldered at their centres to the lead of the panel and then the ends are twisted firmly behind the bar to hold the panel in place. The system may seem primitive but it works well and unless the panels are narrow, is essential on a front door.

Painted Glass - Artistic, Durable, Practical and Hygenic

Splashback for domestic kichen useThe applications are endless, kitchen splashbacks, shower screens, or just the general ornamental use of glass throughout the home or workplace.
Flat or curved, geometric or shaped, laminated or toughened; glass can be painted. Ceramic or screen printed fired-in glass in toughened form is the most popular and durable. Screen printing provides the most versatility with regard to original designs on glass, as a one-off screen is produced through which the paint is applied prior to being fired onto the surface of the glass. Back painted glass is also available in annealed and laminated forms. This is becoming more popular in domestic applications such as glass splashbacks in kitchens and cladding on bathroom walls
